        Sultan Ahmet Tomb

near_me 3.2 km from The Soul Hotel

The tomb of Sultan Ahmed I stands at the northern corner of the mosque he built, facing the square. He died in 1617, a year after the mosque was finished, at twenty-seven.

Inside, thirty-six sarcophagi are arranged under a single dome — the sultan, his consort Kösem, and sons and grandsons including Osman II and Murad IV. The İznik tilework here is the same generation as the mosque’s, and because the room is small the effect is more concentrated.

Entry is free and it takes ten minutes to see. Closed on Mondays; open roughly 09:00 to 17:00 otherwise. Shoes come off at the door.

It sits directly on the route between the tram stop and the mosque, so there is no reason to skip it.
