Galataport is the stretch of Bosphorus shoreline between Karakoy and Tophane that was returned to public use when the cruise terminal was moved underground. About 1.5 kilometres of promenade now runs where the docks used to be.
Along it are waterfront restaurants, a shopping level and Istanbul Modern, the contemporary art museum, in a new building at the Tophane end. The promenade is free, flat and open late.
For guests here it is the closest place to walk directly beside the water. From The Soul Hotel it is about ten minutes downhill through Galata, and the return climb is the only demanding part.
