Balo Street runs off Istiklal and is the shortest route from the hotel to a table with music. It is a narrow lane of bars and small venues, and after dark the sound coming out of the doorways is the reason people turn into it.
The mix ranges from rock bars to places with live Turkish pop, and the crowd is mostly local rather than visiting. Prices are lower than on the waterfront, and nothing here requires booking.
Things start late; before ten the street is quiet. From The Soul Hotel it is a three-minute walk, which also means the way back is short at two in the morning.
