Serdar-i Ekrem Street runs from the foot of the Galata Tower down towards Karakoy, and over the past decade it has become the address for independent Turkish fashion. The buildings are late Ottoman apartment blocks with tall windows, which is part of why designers took the ground floors.
The shops are small and mostly single-label: womenswear, jewellery, leather, ceramics, a few concept stores mixing all of it. Nothing is haggled, everything is priced, and the labels are almost all designed and produced in Turkey.
The street is short enough to walk in ten minutes and interesting enough to take an hour. From The Soul Hotel it is a walk of about eight minutes down through Galata.
