Hagia Triada is the largest Greek Orthodox church in Istanbul and the first to be built with a visible dome and bell towers after the Ottoman restrictions were lifted in the nineteenth century. It opened in 1880, just off Taksim Square.
The interior is unexpectedly bright: a marble iconostasis, a high dome, and a scale that surprises people who walk in from the noise outside. It remains an active parish church rather than a museum, and services are held in Greek.
Visitors are welcome outside service times; modest dress is expected and there is no entrance fee. From The Soul Hotel it is a walk of six or seven minutes up towards Taksim.
